The first inter-planetary war has ended with Earth standing victorious over the seemingly ageless Methuseloids. In its wake, Tommy Tomorrow, a brutal fascist made a war hero by reporter Homer Glint and his Star Rover news team, positions himself as the future messiah of humanity’s new dawn. But in attaining his imprudent quest for immortality, he inadvertently endows all of humankind with the curse of eternal life and makes a true Goddess out of Star Rover Karel Sorensen. If there’s one thing that always follows a new deity, however, it’s the desolation of holy war. And when humans have achieved endless life, their penchant for violence and decay runs rampant through the ages. The Forever Plague will last for millennia; in that time, mankind will reach the farthest stars, sink to the most depraved pits… and witness the rise and fall of Gods.
